Extreme or not?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090508/ap_on_re_us/us_school_dance_flap

Methinks this is the sort of school Rachel Durham and family (from "The Midnight Dancers") would have attended. And most of us know how that ended.

So what do you think? Extreme policy? Ruling? Should he be suspended for this? What sort of a message does this send non-Christains?

Wow. I mean, doesn't the parent have the final say? I don't get how the school can tell you how to live your life outside of the school...

I couldn't tell from the article whether he would be suspended for just going to the prom, or, as the principal said, "being involved in sex and alcohol."
If he would be suspended for being involved in the latter, I could understand, but for just going to the dance? That seems extreme...

Suspended for going to the dance, expelled for sex or alcohol.

Colossians 2:20-23
You died with Christ. Now the forces of the universe don't have any power over you. Why do you live as if you had to obey such rules as,
"Don't handle this. Don't taste that. Don't touch this."?
After these things are used, they are no longer good for anything. So why be bothered with the rules that humans have made up?
Obeying these rules may seem to be the smart thing to do. They appear to make you love God more and to be very humble and to have control over your body. But they don't really have any power over our desires.

Suspended for just going to a dance seems harsh. It's odd how it does remind you of Midnight Dancers!

Forget about going to the prom or rock music and all that. The boy signed a binding contract at the begining of the school year with his school. Regardless of whether the rules are harsh or unjust, or just plain weird, he signed a contract saying he would follow those rules, what ever they are. Now he's breaking the contract, and there are consequences. I'd be disapointed if there aren't consequences for breaking one's word.

That's ridiculous! they can't tell him how to live his life!
