Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Release Day

POTC 4 comes out today! My sister has just left to go see it and I'm waiting anxiously to learn what she thinks! Unfortunately it'll be at least a week before I can see it since no theaters in our area have it captioned this week and I refuse to shell out for a movie ticket if I can't understand what people are saying.

The reviews I've read have been pretty lackluster, so I'm really curious to know what you all think. When you see it, would you leave a comment here to let me know how it was?

I think Pirates 4 is very much a light-hearted movie, it seemed more like a stage play than a movie at some times. That is, the storyline and dialog was mainly playing up to the classic "Pirates" expectations, without having a great deal of originality. That said, I did enjoy the movie more than I expected, and there were enough twists to keep it interesting.

Of course, Jack Sparrow makes his mark. There are so many quotable lines from this movie, and he stays true to his character, despite the romance. Actually it's quite funny to see how Captain Jack handles the classic Disney ending =)

The mermaids were portrayed far better than I expected, and kept reasonably modest (in my opinion). The sensual aspect was pretty light. In fact, I would say it comes through about as much with Angelica as it does with the mermaids.

So overall - the plot doesn't hold together very well on it's own merits, but if you keep in mind that it's a light-hearted Pirate movie, almost a comedy, it can still be entertaining. The visuals are fantastic as always (the wooden leg is done seamlessly too). Immodesty was very slightly overdone, but suitable to the era and nothing compared with most modern movies. Music (being Hans Zimmer) was great, although not as good as the first or third.

Hope some of those comments are helpful! I think it was better than the 2nd movie, and probably just ahead of the 3rd. Even musically it was closer to the first movie than either of the other two.

I thought this movie was miles ahead of 2 and 3. I absolutely loved it. The music was phenomenal, the series itself is improved by not having the long, drawn out story of Will and Elizabeth, and Penelope Cruz does a phenomenal job. The comedy was, as always in Pirates, wonderful, especially with Jack. He has another movie of quotable sayings.
And the ending...I really liked one part and wasn't too happy with another...but overall I liked it. ;) I hope you enjoy it when you see it!

I hear such mixed reviews I hardly know what to think! However people are pretty consistantly saying positive things about Penelope Cruz's and that's what I care the most about.

I have a question. you need the captions because??? why?
I'm just curious. is it just b.c. their lingo is all 1800s'/piratey.

cause i had that problem and i could like half the dialogue lol. but even so i can tell how much i like the movie etc etc. i would give it like 2/5 stars maybe.

I need the captions for the reason that they were invented... I'm deaf. ;)
